Common Questions from Monterey Homeowners
Still have a question? Call Bryant Builder at (831) 713-0187 and we will talk it through with you.
Do you actually work in Monterey, or are you only taking jobs closer to Watsonville?
Yes, Bryant Builder is a local Watsonville company, and Monterey is one of the areas we serve, along with Aptos, Santa Cruz, and the surrounding areas. We offer the full range of home building and remodeling services in Monterey: custom home building, full home remodeling, kitchen and bathroom remodeling, and home additions. Our hours are Monday to Saturday, 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, closed Sunday.
How do you work out what my project is going to cost?
Cost comes down to the details: the size and scope of the work, and how much of the existing structure changes. Materials and finishes matter too, along with what the site and any approvals require, so we will not guess at it over the phone. At the free initial consultation we discuss your goals, needs, and budget, and the quote you get is free as well.
How long will a project like mine take from start to finish?
The schedule is set by how long design and material selection take to settle, and by lead times on the products you pick. Waiting on the reviewing agency to act on a permit moves it, as does living in the home during work. Once the design and selections are locked in, we give you a real schedule rather than a guess. We keep you informed and involved from the initial consultation to the final walkthrough.
Will my remodel need a permit, and do you take care of that part?
Permit requirements depend on the work, so we sort that out with you before construction starts. We manage the permitting process with you and build that step into the plan, so it is handled alongside the design rather than left on your plate. Approval rests with the reviewing agency, not with us, so we allow for that step instead of promising an outcome.
If my property needs a coastal development permit, does that replace the building permit?
No. Where a coastal development permit applies, it is an additional approval rather than a substitute for the building permit, so a project can need both. Not every parcel near the coast is inside the state Coastal Zone, and whether yours is comes down to the parcel itself. If it applies to your project, we tell you plainly and handle it from there.
Who will I be dealing with once the job starts?
You work directly with Mike Bryant, the owner, rather than through a rotating office contact. The design team works with you on the plan, from floor plans to material selection, and the craftsmen carry out the construction. Before the project is called complete, we do a final walkthrough with you to check that everything meets your expectations.
